Relationship Misconceptions

Filed under: Personal - drunkenlagomorph @ 6:10 pm

EK brings up some interesting points to ponder.

Either consciously or subconsciously, I think many of us have believed several of these relationship misconceptions in the past. Hopefully in the past.

SIX INCREDIBLY STUPID LIES ABOUT SEX AND RELATIONSHIPS THAT I ACTUALLY BELIEVED AT ONE TIME OR ANOTHER

1. If you really love someone, you will be ready and willing to have sex at any time.

1a. If you are not in the mood whenever your partner is, something is terribly wrong.

1b. Not getting in the mood at a moment’s notice is a failure on your part, and you are a disappointment to your partner.

2. True love will always be enthralling and dramatic - a rollercoaster of passion.

2b. If your relationship is not a rollercoaster of passion, something is terribly wrong. Try stirring up some drama to get it rolling.

3. Converse to #2, True Love never requires actual work, nor does it ever encounter any real difficulties or obstacles.

4. A romantic relationship cures all pre-existing problems, especially depression.

4a. If you are not constantly, blissfully happy once in a relationship, something is terribly wrong.

5. If someone wants to have sex with you, it usually means that they also admire you and think you are pretty cool.

6. A good relationship means that your partner will always fulfill all your needs without your having to ask. Otherwise, something is terribly wrong.

Well said, EK. I was guilty of believing this stuff for a long, long time. If I only knew then what I know now…
